Post-Doctoral Associate
About the Job
The successful candidate will lead a project and focus on how head and neck tissue resident stem cells contribute to tissue maintenance and repair across lifespan, how they can be exploited for regenerative medicine, and how the acquisition of oncogenic mutations contribute to their malignant transformation and tumorigenesis. The successful candidate will also have scientific curiosity, be highly motivated, be a team player, and have the ability to work and think independently.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- 80% Research:
- Lead, plan, and conduct independent research projects investigating head and neck tissue stem cell (dys)function in various preclinical models (mouse, explant, organoid), focusing on normal aging and age-related diseases, including cancer
- Conduct cellular and molecular biology experiments
- Produce and purify AAVs (adeno-associated viruses)
- Conduct bioinformatic analysis of data
- 20% Professional Development:
- Mentor and train undergraduate and graduate students, and/or research professionals in the lab
- Participate in group meetings, journal clubs, and departmental seminars
- Attend relevant workshops and training courses for scientific and professional development
- Present research results at meetings (institutional, national, international)
- Prepare and write scientific grants and manuscripts
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Genetics, Genomics or a related field
- At least one first author publication (including those under review or in-press)
- Excellent communication and writing skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g., molecular cloning, plasmid preps, RNA/DNA preps, and PCR analysis), protein analysis (Western blot, ELISA, FACS)
- Proficiency in next-generation sequencing technologies (NGS)
- Experience with flow-cytometry
- Experience with tissue- and cell-based culture systems/models
- Experience with in vivo assessments of muscle physiology
- Experience with animal surgeries and tissue harvest, and animal behavioral analyses
- Proficiency with immunofluorescence microscopy
- Experience with Adeno-Associated Virus and/or Lentivirus Production and Purification
- Bioinformatic analysis experience is highly desirable
- Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
About the Department
The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development comprises faculty from both the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences. Faculty members are engaged in research in three key disciplines of the department—genetics, cell biology and developmental biology.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: 62,232.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience
