Post-Doctoral Associate, Somatic Health and Aging

body composition and mobility to understand how social, environmental, and life-history factors shape the living phenotype. This PDA will work closely with Prof. Cassandra Turcotte, University of Calgary, in addition to Profs. James Higham, Susan Antón and Scott Williams at NYU. The PDA will utilize and further develop the CBRU’s long-term somatoskeletal databank, with particular emphasis on integrating DEXA-based measures of body composition with quantitative assessments of mobility and physical function. Together, these approaches provide an opportunity to investigate how individuals differ in growth, condition, functional capacity, and aging, and how these differences are shaped by their social and ecological environments. The position offers extensive opportunities to lead and collaborate on multiple ongoing and planned research studies, develop a distinctive area of research expertise, and engage in national and international dissemination of findings through publications and conferences. The PDA will be required to spend time at the Cayo Santiago field station supervising the collection of movement data, and at both the Cayo Santiago and Sabana Seca Field Stations during the annual trapping period, during which they may be required handle animals. The position is available immediately, but later start dates are potentially negotiable. The position is for one year, renewable for up to five years. Key Responsibilities Oversee the collection of whole-animal health, body composition, and functional mobility data. Work with existing longitudinal anatomical, morphometric, and life-history data. Establish DEXA imaging as a standardized component of the field research protocol for assessing body composition and somatic condition. Expand quantitative mobility and kinematic data collection to characterize functional variation across age, sex, social status, and environmental context. Integrate body composition, mobility, and existing life-history data to investigate variation in somatic health, functional capacity, and aging. Contribute to the preparation of grant applications and peer-reviewed manuscripts. Present research findings at academic conferences and institutional meetings. This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $60,000-65,000 per year. A PhD in anatomy, zoology, animal biology, biological anthropology, or a related field. Evidence of active outputs, such as peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, with some success in grant applications also preferred. Experience working with primates or other animal handling preferred. Experience in anatomy is required, and prior experience with digital methods in anatomy preferred. The PDA will be required to make visits to Puerto Rico for components of data collection.
