Position Summary: Perform NIH-funded research in the area of CRISPR and anti-CRISPR biology.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Designing and conducting experiments to identify and characterize anti-CRISPR proteins from viruses; and to identify and characterize new viruses and plasmids from hyperthermophilic archaea; and to understand detailed molecular mechanisms of prokaryote-viral defense/counter-defense interactions. (60%)
- Assisting with the daily operations of the laboratory including maintenance of phage and bacteria stocks. (10%)
- Preparing manuscripts and presenting findings at conferences in coordination with the PI, for the dissemination of your findings. (10%)
- Assisting with the supervision of student members of the laboratory. (10%)
- Other duties to support research as assigned. (10%)
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position: PhD degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related fields.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: PhD level competence to conduct independent research; to include knowledge of literature, and abilities in hypothesis generation, experimental design, conducting experiments, drawing conclusions, writing reports and manuscripts, delivering oral presentations.
