Post-/ Doctoral Candidate (0.75 FTE) - Mathematical modeling of biological systems on multiple scales
Post-/ Doctoral Candidate (0.75 FTE) - Mathematical modeling of biological systems on multiple scales
Welcome to Anhalt University, one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Germany. Situated in the heart of Central Germany, we offer international-level research and teaching as well as excellent living and study conditions. With over 70 study programs, we provide space for personal development, preparing approximately 7,500 German and international students for successful career starts.
The Department of Applied Biosciences and Process Engineering at Anhalt University (Köthen campus) is seeking to fill one part-time position (75%) limited to 2 years for a Postdoc / PhD candidate, no 442 for the EU/LSA-EFRE funded project Sim-Bio: Simulation of biological systems on multiple scales as soon as possible. The position holder may receive further training at the university's doctoral center for life sciences. The employment relationship is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states. The position is in pay group 13 TV-L.
The scientific focus of the project encompasses two main areas: the epidemiology of infectious diseases and the dynamics of hormonal regulation. Research in the latter area has already been started by a postdoctoral researcher who uses mathematical models and computational methods to study fertility problems caused by hormonal disorders. Research in the former area, which is relevant to the advertised position, will address questions about the evolution of emerging pathogens, a topic that is becoming increasingly important, particularly for European countries, due to climate change and migration.
The COVID-pandemic has demonstrated the importance of understanding virulence, transmissibility, and antigenic diversity of viral pathogens. Although much is known now about COVID-19 and its variants, knowledge about potentially new viral pathogens remains limited. Mathematical modeling and scientific computing can provide new insights into the epidemiology of infectious diseases and ultimately contribute to improving strategies for their containment and eradication. Collaboration between the researchers in both areas is encouraged, as they can benefit from the exchange of methodological aspects.
