Post-Doctoral Fellow (Centre of Research Excellence in Depression Treatment Precision)

  • Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours a week)
  • Duration: Fixed Term contract until 31st August 2027
  • Positions available: Level A and/or Level B, depending on experience
  • Remuneration: From $91k up to $137k base (+ 17% Super, leave loading)
  • Working rights: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position
  • Location: Randwick, Sydney (Hybrid working)

The Black Dog Institute is a Medical Research Institute affiliated with UNSW Sydney, and a global leader in translational mental health research. We harness the latest technology and other tools to quickly turn our world-class research findings into clinical services, education and e-health products that improve the lives of people with mental illness and the wider community.

This role will support the academic activities associated with the Centre of Research Excellence in Depression Treatment Precision and will be actively involved in supporting research to test how we can personalise treatment for depression, using new methods including artificial intelligence and technology-based interventions (e.g., digital mental health interventions). They will also assist in research project administration and reporting, data analysis, and actively contribute to research outputs and grant applications.

Key skills required:

(Level A)

  • PhD in psychology or related field, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Experience with digital health technologies, and/or clinical trials (not essential but preferred).
  • Completed clinical training as a registered psychologist or clinical psychologist (not essential but preferred)
  • Experience in the treatment of adults with depression and related disorders using cognitive behavioural approaches and/or lifestyle-based approaches (not essential but preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting complex research projects, including ability to meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Experience in student and technical staff supervision or teaching.
  • Strong organisation skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and meet strict deadlines.

Level B (in addition to the above)

  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact, with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate scientific findings to non-scientific audiences.
  • Demonstrated track record of ability to attract external research funding.
