Post Doctoral Fellow (Horstick Lab) - Department of Biology
Description
The Department of Biology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Under the leadership of Eric Horstick, the incumbent in this position will conduct research in the field of Biology. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits-eligible position.
Prospective postdoctoral fellows will design and conduct research, support student training, and animal facility operations in the Horstick Lab in the area of neural plasticity using fish as a model system. The individual will be expected to generate research products (data and manuscripts) consistent with the expectations of an R1 research institution.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct rigorous scientific experiments that use sophisticated equipment and genetic tools
- Analyze, present, assimilate, and write scientific literature
- Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in the lab
- Support operations of zebrafish facility and animal health
Qualifications
Professional Qualifications
- PhD in basic or biomedical sciences is required, focus in neuroscience preferred.
- In addition, the successful applicant must have the following experience and skills:
- First author publication in a recognized and peer-reviewed journal within the field of biological sciences
- Presentation at regional and/or national conferences
- Animal research protocols and procedures
- Preferred experience with aquatic model systems
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, Ability to effectively use excel, PowerPoint, and Word, demonstrated ability to write and publish scientific manuscripts, demonstrated ability to be successful in a R1 level research environment
The successful candidate may be permitted to begin employment prior to degree confirmation with a letter certifying the trainee has completed all degree requirements from their university.
