Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology

Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology, to commence from Jan 1, 2026, or as soon as possible, on a 1.5-year term, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in sociology, early childhood education, family studies, developmental or educational psychology, social or public policy, or a related field. Candidates must possess relevant research experience in the implementation of large-scale surveys, including overseeing the overall workflow, personnel management, questionnaire design, setting up the survey online platform, data cleaning and management, and sample maintenance. Proficiency in advanced quantitative data analysis, familiarity with statistical software such as Stata and R, and basic IT skills are essential. Candidates must be detail-oriented, responsible, and possess excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team is crucial. Proficiency in Cantonese and experience in collecting data in Hong Kong are preferred. A strong aptitude for and keen interest in understanding young children’s development and family well-being would be advantageous. This position offers early-career professionals an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing, conducting, and disseminating large-scale, interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research. The Post-doctoral Fellow will also have opportunities to participate in various research projects and activities organized by the Social Science Research Centre (SSRC).

The appointee will contribute to an interdisciplinary multi-year large-scale project led by Professor Ming Wen on early childhood development in Hong Kong, with an emphasis on identifying the impact of family factors. The appointee will be responsible for coordinating data collection and management, liaising with external parties, managing participant recruitment and retention, designing questionnaires, implementing surveys, supervising junior research staff, processing and analyzing data, contributing to research reports and manuscripts, and performing other research-related duties as assigned.
