POST DOCTORAL FELLOW - Materials Science and Engineering #00095824
Hiring Department
Materials Science and Engineering
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at Missouri S&T as part of an exciting DARPA-funded initiative: Induced Ceramic Ductility via Nano Domains and Strain Hardening in Zeta Phase Transition Metal Carbide Ceramics. This position will focus on modeling and simulation effort, leveraging:
- Density Functional Theory (DFT) to explore electronic structure, phase stability, and cleavage energies of high-entropy carbide ceramics.
- Molecular Dynamics (MD) to investigate dislocation mobility, strain hardening, and high-temperature deformation in zeta-phase materials.
- The broader goal is achieving ultra-tough, high-temperature ceramics that enable next-generation aerospace and defense systems
Qualifications
Required Qualification:
- Ph.D. in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong background in DFT and/or MD (VASP, LAMMPS, or similar tools)
- Experience with high-entropy materials or ceramics is a plus
- Interest in the mechanistic modeling of fracture and deformation
Application Deadline
Applications will be accepted until this position is filled.
