Activities and context

The project will investigate the tectonic and magmatic evolution of the South Atlantic Continental Margin using advanced seismological and geophysical methods, including surface-wave tomography, receiver functions, reflected phases, joint inversion, and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). The project aims to characterize the continent-ocean crustal transition, volcanic structures, and continental breakup processes, contributing to a better understanding of geodynamics, natural resource assessment, and the training of human resources in Geophysics.

Mandatory requirements

PhD in Geophysics, Physics, or Engineering, with a background in Seismology and seismic data processing. Experience in scientific programming, preferably in Python. Knowledge of seismic waveform processing using ObsPy or equivalent software. Availability to participate in field campaigns, including the installation and maintenance of seismic stations and/or fiber-optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) experiments. Candidates must have completed their PhD no more than seven (7) years prior to November 1, 2026.

Desirable requirements

Experience in seismic data processing and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 12,570.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
