Advertised Salary: $48,000 - $55,000.00

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and execution of a resilience assessment for infrastructure, manufacturing, and industrial systems in Qatar. (25%)
  • Lead efforts on identifying and assessing resilience measures for transformation in infrastructure, manufacturing, and/or industrial systems. (25%)
  • Support project activities, such as geospatial analysis, hazard assessment, technology transfer, etc. (20%)
  • Communicate regularly and in a timely fashion with the PI regarding research and other issues relevant to the projects. (15%)
  • Co-authoring journal manuscripts and research reports for project sponsors and oral presentations of research to sponsors and at scientific meetings. (15%)

Position Summary: The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia wishes to hire a postdoctoral fellow for one year, with the potential for renewal. The successful candidate will be part of a highly interdisciplinary team researching resilience across infrastructure, manufacturing, and industrial systems. In this role, the candidate will work under Drs. Bjorn Birgisson and Alysha Helmrich’s direct supervision and with the broader team, consisting of researchers at the University of Georgia, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and Qatar University. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position: A PhD in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field. Experience with analytical and qualitative skills related to natural hazards risk assessment, compound risk assessment, and resilience assessment. Ideal candidate would have experience with geospatial methods, data analysis, and visualization; expertise in coupled human-natural systems and/or social-ecological-technological systems; and a record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Strong oral and written communication skills. Thrive in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and the capacity to conceptualize and implement high-quality/high-impact engineering research projects.

Physical Demands: Standard for office/lab environments.
