Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence in research and tropical diseases. Established in 1898, making us the oldest school of our kind, we have been committed to improving health for over 127 years.
We are currently seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work as part of the Start4All project which focuses on global improvement of TB screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Based at LSTM, you will coordinate activities between LSTM, partner countries, the Stop TB partnership (Geneva), World Health Organisation (WHO), and the funder Unitaid.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Working with the project management and implementation teams to ensure the successful and timely delivery of study activities, engagement with key in-country and international stakeholders, including through key informant interviews, and supporting data managers to present data to policy makers at national level and World Health Organisation.
- Supporting the design of effective integrated strategies for the sustainable, acceptable, and affordable case detection, care, and treatment of TB.
- Identifying priorities of affected persons and communities to ensure equitable management of TB that meets the needs of vulnerable populations and promotes social inclusion.
- Contributing to the development of recommendations for the scale up of quality effective interventions within existing health systems infrastructure.
- Improving stakeholder capacity to identify and address research gaps and apply evidence to strengthen the diagnosis and care of people affected by TB.
- Supporting day-to-day running of research activities both at LSTM and with advice and liaison with partners across the five implementing countries
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- PhD in a health or health-related science discipline (such as Public Health, Diagnostics, Community Health, Health Policy, development studies, geography, sociology or anthropology, health systems)
- Experience in working in health, development or implementation in low-income countries.
- Experience in conducting research in the field of diagnostics (ideally related to TB), social sciences, health economics, and international/global health
- Understanding of working within multi-country research consortia in the field of TB, ideally with those in which LSTM has previously been involved as a partner or lead
You will need to be able to undertake overseas travel periodically for the post.
