Offer Description
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within the School of Earth Sciences
We invite applications for a position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow for a research project awarded to Dr Koen Torremans as part of the Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences (iCRAG) at the UCD School of Earth Sciences. The research project is called "Structural geology and the controls on mineralisation at Rosh Pinah", and it aims to unravel the regional and near-mine structural architecture of the Gariep Belt in southern Namibia, to assess the role of structures of any age on mineralisation and alteration at the Rosh Pinah Zn-Pb-Ag deposit, and to translate this into mineral exploration.
The post-doctoral research fellow will carry out an integrated structural analysis at regional, district and deposit scales, combining field and underground structural mapping with interpretation of high-resolution photogrammetry data, borehole data, and petrographic and mineral chemical analysis, at and around the clastic- and carbonate-hosted Rosh Pinah Zn-Pb-Ag deposit. This project offers a rare opportunity to map and interpret underexplored structural architecture in excellent desert exposure, independently but in collaboration with industry partners operating a world-class orebody.
