Offer Description
A Post-doctoral Research Fellowship (BIPD) (Reference REQUIMTE 2026-49) on the project POMCELL with reference COMPETE2030-FEDER-00666500, supported by FEDER (COMPETE 2030) and national funds by FCT / MECI, is available at REQUIMTE.

Admission requirements:
The candidates must hold a PhD in Chemistry or similar scientific areas, obtained in the previous three years to the date of submission of the application, and have proven experience in the synthesis and characterization of polyoxometalates, metalorganic frameworks, carbon materials and experience in electrochemistry, namely in the preparation and characterization of batteries.
The host institution where the research work was developed that led to the attribution of the candidate's doctoral degree must be different from Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde - Tecnologias e Processos Limpos.
In case the doctorate degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied until the signature of the contract.
Workplan:
In the framework of project POMCELL, the candidate will be involved in Tasks 1, 2, 6 e 7 of the project. Task 1 – Tailoring electrode materials for cathode/anode by chemical routes) involves the synthesis of POMs, MOFs, carbon materials and their composites with potential application as electrode materials in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Task 2 – Electrode materials characterization & electrochemical screening involves the morphological, compositional and spectroscopic characterization of the electrode materials prepared in the previous task as well as their electrochemical characterization and the benchmark against the best state-of-the-art materials. In Task 6 – Project communication, dissemination and exploitation and Task 7 – Project Coordination and Management, will assist the project PI in the supervision and training of undergraduate and graduate students, assist in the preparation of publications and progress reports, and in the presentation at national and/or international conferences.

Work Place: The work will be conducted at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, under the supervision of Diana Mónica de Mesquita Sousa Fernandes (Researcher at LAQV@REQUIMTE).
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of 12 months, potentially renewable for additional periods of 12 months, up to 24 months, but cannot exceed the project end date (30/05/2028), expected to start on September 2026.
Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €1.901 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria: The selection methods will be:
- Curriculum Vitae avaliation – 65%PhD in Chemistry – 20%
- Proven experience in:
- Electrochemical techniques essential to batteries characterization (CV, EIS, Galvanostatic cycling) – 15%
- Synthesis and characterization of POMs, MOFs e carbon materials – 15%
- Materials characterization – 15%
- Previous experience in research projects and/or innovation (publications, participation in national and international projects, patents, etc.) – 30%Publications in the área of the project – 10 %
- Participation in R&D projects – 10 %
- Other indicators proving experience in R&D – 10 %
- Motivation letter - 5%Clarity, objectivity and alignment of motivation with the objectives of the POMCELL project - 5%
In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 30%.
The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 60%.
