Offer Description
One (1) research position for a Post-doctoral Research Grant is open at Centre for International Studies (CEI-Iscte) of Iscte – Knowledge and Innovation (Iscte Knowledge and Innovation Association - Centre for Technology Transfer and Valorisation), in the scope of Pluriannual Funding UID/03122/2025 of CEI-Iscte, granted by Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)/MCTES (PIDDAC) through national funds, with the following conditions:

- Main research field: Social Sciences, International Relations and Political Science, or similar
- Admission Requirements:
- Doctoral Degree in Social Sciences, International Relations and Political Science, or similar
- The Doctoral Degree must have been obtained less than three years prior to the date of the submission of this application.
- Doctoral research must have been conducted in a different Research Unit than the one where the post-doctoral research will be developed.
- Workplan:
- The workplan of the applicant should focus on the development of scientific research within one of the three research groups of CEI-Iscte – “Global Politics and Security”, “Democracy, Activism and Citizenship” or “Sustainable Societies” – with the following objectives:
- to contribute to the publication of scientific articles and other outputs;
- to organise scientific and policy-based events;
- to prepare applications to national and international funding programmes;
- to contribute to the dissemination of findings of the research groups.
- Applicable legislation:
- This call is governed by the present call for applications, the FCT Research Fellowship Regulation, approved by the Regulation 950/2019 in its current version; by the Research Fellow Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004 of 18 August, in its current version; and by all other applicable national and European legislation (available at https://www.fct.pt/financiamento/programas-de-financiamento/bolsas/; https://diariodarepublica.pt/dr/detalhe/regulamento/950-2019-127238533; https://diariodarepublica.pt/dr/legislacao-consolidada/lei/2004-58216179)
- Place of work:
- The work will be developed at the premises of the Centre for International Studies (CEI) of Iscte – Knowledge and Innovation, under the supervision of CEI-Iscte Director, Ana Mónica Fonseca.
- Duration:
- The BIPD has a duration of 6 months renewable for additional periods of 6 months up to the maximum of 18 months. The start date is expected for January 2027.
- Financial terms:
- The BIPD amount corresponds to €1.901, according to the table of grants defined by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf), paid monthly by bank transfer to the grant holder. The amount is increased by the Voluntary Social Contribution corresponding to the first tier, if the applicant opts for it, as well as personal accident insurance.
- Application procedures:

- Motivation letter, including a: i) reflection on the relevant activities, for the present call, that were carried out during the last years, and future perspectives of the work to be developed during the research grant period; ii) reflection on the suitability of the candidate profile and research project to the activities of the Research Group of CEI-Iscte that they wish to work on. Candidates should also explicitly mention how they meet the admission requirements, including the availability requirement.
- Curriculum Vitae, including the scientific publications considered relevant.
- Research plan, written in English, defining and contextualizing the objectives and scientific questions, activities to be developed, expected results, and identifying the scientific mission and challenge to be aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.
- Document certifying that the candidate holds the doctorate. If the doctorate has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the applicants must provide evidence of its recognition or equivalence of degree, and all the formalities by the time of the celebration of this contract (https://www.dges.gov.pt/pt/pagina/reconhecimento?plid=374).
- Document proving the country of residence, residence permit, or other legally equivalent document in the case of foreign citizens, valid on the start date of the research grant.
- Copy of other certifying documents considered relevant.
- All documents must be submitted in PDF format.
- Candidates who do not submit all the documents abovementioned will not be considered.
- Selection criteria
- The selection methods to be used will be curriculum evaluation and interview. In the curriculum evaluation, which will focus on the merit of the applicant, the following criteria will be considered:
- Academic background (reflecting classifications and academic degrees) - 30%
- Curriculum Vitae (reflecting the professional, academic and scientific background) - 30%
- Research Plan - 30%
- Motivation letter - 10%
- The Selection Committee will summon the 3 candidates with the highest curricular evaluation for an interview.
- The Selection Committee reserves the right not to award a grant if none of the candidates meet the desired profile.
- Selection Committee:
- The Selection Committee responsible for evaluating the applications is composed of the following members:

- Professor Pedro Seabra (Member; Deputy director of CEI-Iscte)

- Communication of the results:
- The final evaluation results will be communicated by email and published in a list ordered by final grade, at the Recruitment Platform of Iscte - Knowledge and Innovation. All candidates will be notified by email.

- The competition is open from 7th August until 11:59 p.m. 30th of September 2026 (Lisbon timezone), and only applications submitted within the deadline will be accepted.
