Position Number: 00111529
Essential Job Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to support and advance research in the areas of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), machine learning for radar and wireless systems, and software-defined radio (SDR) based developments in sensing/communication areas. The postdoctoral fellow will play a key role in conducting innovative research, mentoring graduate students, disseminating findings through high-impact publications, and supporting the preparation of competitive research proposals. This position is critical to maintaining the lab's momentum in federally funded research and expanding its impact in next-generation radar and communication technologies.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing algorithms for joint radar and communication system architectures, with an emphasis on integrated sensing and communication (ISAC).
- Applying and developing novel machine learning techniques for radar, remote sensing and wireless communication areas based on project targets.
- Prototyping signal processing algorithms using software-defined radio (SDR) platforms (e.g., USRP, GNU Radio, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Leading and collaborating on journal and conference publications to disseminate research findings.
- Advising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate research students.
- Supporting the preparation and writing of new research proposals aligned with the lab's mission and funding agency priorities.
- Participating in weekly research meetings and project reviews to coordinate progress and communicate results to project stakeholders.
- Supporting experiments over the NSF AERPAW Platform
Departmental Required Skills:
- Software-Defined Radio (SDR) Prototyping: Proficiency in implementing algorithms on SDR platforms such as USRP, using tools like GNU Radio, MATLAB/Simulink, or Python/C++ with real-time signal capture and analysis.
- Expertise in Signal processing and communications: Deep understanding of fundamental signal processing and communication theory is needed. Additional knowledge on radar, remote sensing, array signal processing, beamforming, target detection/tracking, and spectrum sharing techniques are a plus.
- Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC): Familiarity with joint radar- communication system concepts, co-design strategies, and emerging research trends in dual-function RF systems.
- Machine Learning for Sensing and Communication: Experience applying deep learning, compressed sensing, or statistical learning methods to problems in radar imaging, classification, channel estimation, or spectrum inference.
- Scientific Communication and Writing: Demonstrated ability to author high- quality journal and conference papers, with strong technical writing and presentation skills.
- Research Collaboration and Advising: Experience working in interdisciplinary teams, mentoring graduate students, and contributing to proposal development in response to federal funding calls (e.g., NSF, DoD, NASA).
- Programming and Simulation Tools: Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and common deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) are required.
