Post Doctoral Researcher, Gundlach Group

Summary

The group of Prof. Lars Gundlach at the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware, is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy. The project involves the design, development, and commissioning of a novel 2D THz spectrometer. The spectrometer is being developed to study ultrafast dynamics in novel magnetic quantum materials, which are developed as part of the CHARM MRSEC center at UD. This postdoctoral position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a well-funded project with state-of-the-art laser technology.

Context

The Gundlach group is developing and using femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopic and microscopic techniques to investigate excited-state dynamics in hybrid and solid-state materials. Transport and transfer of energy are the most critical processes that determine the evolution of a system, and they are essential for a broad range of applications. In particular, the coupling between excitations such as magnons, phonons, and electrons is essential for transfer or transduction and can occur on time scales as short as a few femtoseconds. The necessary experimental techniques to study these processes are developed, improved, and applied to a broad range of materials systems in our group.

Major Responsibilities

  • Setup and commissioning of a 2D-THz instrument based on a commercial novel 25 fs, >3mJ laser system.
  • Conduct benchmark experiments on new magnetic systems in collaboration with the MRSEC CHARM center (https://mrsec.udel.edu/).

Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or related fields. A strong demonstrated background in method development in ultrafast laser spectroscopy is required. Background in time-domain THz spectroscopy and/or 2D spectroscopy is preferred. The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. In addition, experience in the dynamics of magnetic materials will be viewed favorably.

The initial appointment is for one year; renewal is subject to performance and availability of funds. The anticipated starting date is October 1, 2025.

Applications should include a CV, a list of publications, and a list of three references.
