  • Full-time, fixed term opportunity for two years
  • Position description: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neuroimaging Neuroscience
  • Location: O’Callaghan group, School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney
  • Base Salary starting at $113,400 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a focus on neuroimaging, to be involved in a variety of projects where they will apply neuroimaging techniques across clinical, cognitive, neurobiological and neuropharmacological questions. Under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr Claire O’Callaghan, the successful candidate will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, where they will be supported to develop their own research questions and lead projects. Experience in neuroimaging (particularly functional) is required, and ideally the candidate will have experience in linking imaging methods with cognitive, neurobiological or computational modelling frameworks.

Your key responsibilities will involve:

Original Research:

  • Conduct original research in the areas of functional and structural neuroimaging, with a focus on linking this with cognitive tasks and neuromodulatory systems.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across systems neuroscience and complexity (e.g., Shine lab, University of Sydney) and clinical neuroscience (e.g., Parkinson’s disease research clinic, Macquarie University).

Neuroimaging Data Analysis:

  • Process and analyse structural and functional neuroimaging data to extract meaningful insights into brain function.
  • Apply state-of-the-art software tools and methodologies for neuroimaging data pre-processing and analysis; with a motivation to learn new techniques and keep up-to-date with best practices.

Publication and Dissemination:

  • Prepare research findings for publication in scientific journals.
  • Present research outcomes at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with lab members to contribute to grant proposals and funding applications.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with members of the lab and external collaborators to enhance interdisciplinary research efforts.
  • Contribute to a vibrant and collaborative research environment within the lab.
  • Take a leading role in mentoring junior students, with the opportunity to take on formal supervision roles.

About you

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Computational Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate will also be expected to have quantifiable experience with:
  • A variety of different neuroimaging methodologies.
  • Using multiple programming languages, including R, Python, MATLAB and/or shell scripting.
  • Well-defined skills in the visualisation of neuroimaging and neuroscience results.
  • The analysis and interpretation of neuroimaging data.
  • First-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Disseminating work at national and international conferences.
  • A track-record of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
