The Materials Research Institute (MRI) at Penn State seeks outstanding applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar position focused on the area of piezoelectric microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). The candidate should have experience in characterization of dielectric and piezoelectric responses, as well as considerable experience in a cleanroom, preferably with an emphasis on MEMS fabrication.
Responsibilities:
- Performing world-leading fabrication of piezoelectric microelectromechanical systems based on doped AlN. The goal will be to measure the piezoelectric responses over a wide temperature range, and to synthesize resonators for sum-difference frequency generation.
- To present results at technical conferences and prepare manuscripts for submission.
- Assist with operations in the Trolier-McKinstry laboratories, including equipment upkeep, data management, preparation of reports for research sponsors, and scientific outreach to the broader community.
Education and Experience:
This position typically requires a Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or a closely related field.
Candidates for this position must have: a strong record of related research and experience in materials science and engineering, especially in dielectric and/or piezoelectric characterization, as well as experience working in a cleanroom.
The position requires excellent organizational, time management and communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.
To be considered for this position, applicants should include a curriculum vitae, a cover letter with a summary of relevant skills and experience and contact information for three professional references (name, position title, mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
