Posts of Part-time Research Support Officer I
Project LUCSIB – “Lung Cancer Specific ImmunoBiologics”

And any other projects undertaken by the Department of Applied Biomedical Science, Faculty of Health Sciences
Applications are invited for two Research Support Officers (RSOs) to carry out duties in relation to the LUCSIB project funded by Xjenza Malta. The RSOs may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by the Department of Applied Biomedical Science, Faculty of Health Sciences.
Applicants must be in possession of a BSc in the Life Sciences Areas.

The posts are for a period up to 30th November 2027 and will entail 15 and 20 hours of work per week. The posts may be extended further, subject to the availability of funds and exigencies of the project.
The positions start at a remuneration per hour (inclusive of any cost-of-living adjustment) of €13.08.

Further Information
Project LUCSIB will utilize a three pronged interdisciplinary approach to identify and validate antibodies with biological activity against NSCLC. Firstly, we will perform Nanopore sequencing on two groups of antibodies: i) Antibodies that bind to novel TAAs on NSCLC cells; ii) Antibodies that we previously identified in our lab, which specifically target a panel of TAAs and immune checkpoint proteins. This will enable an in-depth analysis of antibody diversity and selection-driven dynamics. Secondly, we will then employ cutting-edge machine learning approaches to strategically refine our candidate antibodies. By leveraging these models to propose evolutionary feasible mutations, we aim to significantly enhance the binding properties of our candidate antibodies. Thirdly, we will put our computationally enhanced antibodies to the test - validating their binding and biological activity in NSCLC cell models and patient samples.

The appointees will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- Work on laboratory based research;
- Events organisation;
- Administrative part of the project; and
- Participation in partners meetings.
The appointees will be expected to work at such places and during such hours as may be determined by the University authorities.
The selection procedure will involve:
- scrutiny of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application);
- shortlisting; and
- an interview and / or extended interview.
The posts are for a period up to 30th November 2027, which will be subject to a probationary period and to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University of Malta which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
