Postal Assistant - Temporary
Job Summary:
The Postal Assistant (Temporary) transmits communications by distributing and dispatching mail.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
- Distributes mail by retrieving or receiving items from post office and delivery services; opening and sorting by addressee, destination, and type; delivering items.
- Complies with postal service and delivery service requirements by preparing outgoing mail for delivery.
- Provides mail and parcel delivery services by selling postage at post office window, weighing packages, certifying, registering, and insuring mail for customers.
- Complies with Federal regulations by preparing bank deposits; reconciling receipts and disbursements; preparing accompanying forms and reports.
- Maintains post office rental boxes by renting boxes, processing rental forms and billing information.
- Trains staff by reviewing postal regulations with staff; contributing to on-the-job training; demonstrating operation of equipment; acting as resource person.
- Maintains records by scheduling, validating, and entering data; verifying data entry for accuracy, auditing and troubleshooting problems with address changes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- 1 plus year of basic office, retail, or related experience.
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Must be insurable under motor vehicle requirements.
- Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of customer service techniques.
- Knowledge of accuracy with numeric skills.
- Ability to operate a computer using basic software.
- Ability to clearly communicate information.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
- Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
- Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
- Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 65 lbs.
Work Environment:
- Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
- This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
- There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
- The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
