"Postal Clerk"

Job Description

Position is responsible to performs a variety of postal clerk functions in support of University Postal Services. Processes a variety of incoming and outcoming mail and packages, operates postal equipment, and provides retail services to the campus community and visiting guests.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Distribute and sort mail and packages.
• Perform cashier duties: handling cash, check, and bank card payments.
• Perform Clerical duties such as answering phones, email communications, and maintaining records of actions taken.
• Record and maintain inventory throughout the day.
• Operate and maintain up to date knowledge of all postal regulations and equipment.
• Provide postal knowledge and customer services to departments, students, and the general public.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Work, Excel, etc.).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
• Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
• Ability to sort and distribute mail correctly.
• Ability to maintain files accurately, paper and electronically.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to handle cash.
• Ability to benchmark and maintain simple bookkeeping entries.
• Knowledge of University guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move or lift packages up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Cash handling experience.
• Computer proficiency.
• Customer service experience.
• Mailroom work experience preferred.
