Postdoc on Dutch Colonial Social and Economic History
Job Summary: Join the NWO-funded Vici-project 'Care and Coercion' to study the intricate relations between care and coercion in households in the Dutch Empire from c. 1750-1950. The project focuses on colonial Suriname, Indonesia, and South Africa, examining violence, coercion, gender, and racial lines in household work.
Responsibilities: Conduct intensive archival and literature research in Dutch and former colonial archives; write research articles; organize a joint conference; contribute to an online textbook; and participate in societal relevance activities.
Qualifications and Requirements: A PhD in social, economic, and/or cultural history; demonstrated archival research skills; enthusiasm for collaborating in a research team; excellent oral and written communication skills in English; preferably knowledge of relevant languages such as Sranantongo, Bahasa Indonesia, Zulu, or Xhosa.
What the Employer Offers: A 36-month position (initially 12 months with extension possible); a working week of 30.4-32 hours; a gross monthly salary between €4,537 and €6,209 for full-time employment; 8% holiday pay; 8.3% year-end bonus; pension scheme; partially paid parental leave; and flexible employment terms under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
