Project Overview
The project focuses on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) through Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) in Europe, assessing the climate effects, ecosystem service trade-offs, and direct and indirect land use change impacts of large-scale deployment. It is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation project: “BECCS as a tool to achieve net-negative GHG emissions in Europe.”
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research under PI supervision
 - Analyze and interpret ecosystem and land-use data
 - Participate in dissemination, including publishing in high-impact journals
 - Contribute to teaching and mentoring activities
 - Collaborate with international research partners, including short-term stays abroad
 - Report research progress clearly and systematically
 
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Strong interdisciplinary background in ecology, forestry, systems analysis, or land use change
 - Experience in quantitative modelling and data analysis of land use
 - Knowledge of ecosystem services assessment and trade-offs
 - Systems thinking and interdisciplinary approach
 - Excellent English communication skills
 
Desirable:
- Interest in forests, biosphere-atmosphere interactions, climate policy
 - Strong teamwork, networking, and leadership abilities
 - Ability to plan and manage complex research tasks
