"Postdoc Position: Social Interaction and Language Technology"

Job Summary

This position involves investigating topics at the intersection of human language and interactive interfaces as part of the Futures of Language project. The role focuses on understanding how language and technology shape each other, including questions about interactional foundations of language and the impact of language technologies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and publish original research on topics at the intersection of language, social interaction, and technology.
• Carry out academic service, such as co-organizing workshops and science communication.
• Contribute to supervision of students and collaborate with PhD candidates and project members.
• Design your own research projects within the transdisciplinary framework.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A PhD in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Communication and Information Sciences, or a related discipline focused on empirical research on social interaction (e.g., HCI, STS, linguistic anthropology, sociology).
• Eagerness to engage with fundamental questions about language and technology.
• Solid technical skills and a deep, critical understanding for thoughtful analyses of empirical data.
• Excellent communication skills in English, with a talent for connecting people and science-society communication.
• Enthusiasm for transdisciplinary research and supervising students.
• Experience in publishing in scientific journals and a passion for reading and writing.

What the Employer Offers

• A temporary employment contract for 1 year at 0.8 FTE, with the prospect of extension for another 2 years (up to 3 years total).
• Salary between €4537 and €6209 per month, depending on education and experience, based on a 38-hour working week.
