We are seeking to recruit a junior researcher for the UOC-eHealth Center - Research Center for Human and Planetary Health, in the NeuroADaS Lab research group at the UOC.
The purpose of the project From Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Molecular Signatures: Generative AI for Virtual Biopsy in Gliomas - Gliogen X will be to develop a non-invasive virtual biopsy based on magnetic resonance imaging to molecularly classify gliomas. The project integrates generative AI, interpretable models, uncertainty estimation, and federated learning to improve clinical decision-making, data privacy, and personalized medicine.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and validate the federated learning infrastructure of the GLIOGEN-X project.
- Configure and coordinate the Fed-BioMed platform at participating centers.
- Ensure data security, privacy, and traceability in accordance with the GDPR and the EU AI Act.
- Integrate predictive virtual biopsy models in distributed environments.
- Lead pilot experiments and monitor the convergence of federated models.
- Compare the performance of federated models with local and centralized models.
- Contribute to technical documentation, deliverables, scientific publications, and coordination meetings with partners.
- Participate actively in securing new funding.
The contract will be fixed-term two-year full-time contract. The start date will be in January 2027.

Candidate profile
- Education: PhD degree in biomedical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, medical physics, neuroimaging, bioengineering, or related disciplines, accompanied by accredited training in machine learning, deep learning, or medical image analysis.
- Experience: A minimum of one year of prior experience in biomedical research, neuroimaging, neuro-oncology, or AI applications in health, as well as demonstrable experience in scientific writing, technical report preparation, and project deliverable management.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of the context of biomedical research and collaborative European projects, in addition to knowing the principles of security, privacy (GDPR and EU AI Act), ethics, and governance in digital health, while following good practices in reproducible research, documentation, and version control.
- Specific knowledge: Mastery of advanced scientific programming in Python and the use of frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. It is also necessary to have experience in federated learning and deep learning applied to medical imaging, as well as in the evaluation, validation, and monitoring of AI models in multicenter environments. Likewise, experience in processing and harmonizing magnetic resonance data (using tools such as NIfTI, DICOM, SimpleITK, MONAI, or nibabel), knowledge of Linux, Git, virtual environments and containers (Docker), and experience in training models on GPU in secure environments are required.
- Languages:
- Oral and written communication skills in both Catalan and Spanish.
- English language skills to at least CEFR level B2, or First Certificate equivalent, essential for working on an international project, writing technical documentation and scientific articles, and participating in meetings with partners.
- Soft skills: Ability to work effectively in international projects and multidisciplinary teams within the field of digital health.

- Specific knowledge of neuroimaging, neuro-oncology, or neurological diseases.
- Experience with Fed-BioMed or other federated learning platforms.
- Knowledge of explainable AI (XAI), uncertainty estimation, and clinical validation of models.

- Ability for autonomy, initiative, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Knowledge of the Italian language (to facilitate the stay at Siena Imaging).
