Competence Center for Empirical Research Methods
Parttime, 38hours/week
Starting Ocotober 12, 2026, and ending after 6 years
Would you like to consult and support research staff and doctoral candidates at WU in empirical research projects using qualitative, interpretative, and mixed-methods approaches and act as a collaborator? Do you want to conduct independent research in qualitative and interpretative research methods and promote good scientific practice? And all this at one of the largest and most modern business universities in Europe? This position offers you a pathway into academia as well as later opportunities in empirical research practice.
After a contract duration of 2 years, it is possible to conclude a development agreement. According to the WU personnel development plan, this position has a maximum fixed term of 6 years. If all agreed goals are met, the employment relationship can be converted into a permanent position.
What to expect
- Consulting and providing support to WU research staff and doctoral candidates in qualitative and interpretive research methods and projects, as well as in research projects employing mixed methods
- Establishing and managing the Ombudsperson office for good scientific practice in collaboration with the central office
- Participating in self-administration and handling administrative tasks of the Competence Center for Empirical Research Methods
- Organizing and conducting methods workshops
- Designing, organizing, and facilitating methodological exchange and interpretation forums
- Curating, maintaining, and further developing the WU Methods Toolbox
- Conducting independent research, including publishing in internationally recognized journals and securing third-party funding
- Pursuing academic advancement opportunities, including habilitation
What you have to offer
- Completed doctoral/PhD degree preferably with a background in social sciences
- Excellent knowledge of qualitative methods for empirical social research
- Excellent knowledge of mixed-methods approaches for empirical social research
- Advanced expertise in at least one specialized area of interpretive or reconstructive social research (e.g., artifact analysis) is an advantage
- Solid knowledge of the principles of good scientific practice, including relevant frameworks
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with didactic competence for individual consulting, method coaching, and teaching
- Experience in scientific methods consulting and coaching
- Openness to diverse qualitative research approaches and interest in their development and application
- Ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary and cooperative research contexts
- Strong skills in computer-assisted qualitative data analysis; experience with MAXQDA and/or NVivo is an advantage, as are skills in statistical software
- Ability to independently plan, conduct, and publish scientific research projects
- Experience in writing scientific articles and publishing in recognized academic journals
- Experience in securing third-party funding as well as in the design and implementation of Third Mission projects is an advantage
- Excellent German and English language skills, both written and spoken (level C1)
- Ability to work well in a team, enthusiasm, initiative, strong self-organization skills, and enjoyment of responsibility
- Willingness to teach using multimedia: You are prepared to apply multimedia teaching and learning formats.
