By order issued by the Director General of the Telecommunications Institute on September 21, 2026, it was approved to open an international call to select two (2) candidate researchers in the scientific scope of the project 6GLOBAL, under the scope of a term contract, with a termination date undetermined, overseen by Portuguese Labour Code. Job description:
Profile #1:
- Develop new interconnection mechanisms for isolated network deployments, extending connectivity for applications and users
- Apply the new mechanisms for different types of vertical applications.
Profile #2:
- Develop new Software Defined Networking energy-efficient mechanisms for industrial networks
- Apply the new mechanisms for different types of vertical applications.
About the position
The two positions are related to the digitalization of industries, providing new solutions for dynamic capacity following people seamless mobility, as well as automation, reliability, transparency, using Beyond 5G and 6G principles, over distributed and smarted Networks.
The approximate duration of the contract will be 24 months, depending on the completion of the tasks identified above, and this period is not necessarily linked to the duration of the specific project.
Applicable Legislation:
- Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 29th of August, which approved the hiring of doctorate to stimulate scientific and technological employment for all areas of knowledge (RJEC), amended by the Law 57/2017 dated 19th of July, and regulated by Regulatory Decree nr 11-A/2017, dated 29th December
- Labour Code approved by Law no. 7/2009 of 12 February, under its current Reading.
The workplace shall be at Instituto de Telecomunicações, Polo de Aveiro, Campus Universitário de Santiago, 3810-193 Aveiro.

Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) holding a doctorate degree in Informatics or other related scientific area and a suitable scientific and professional curriculum may submit an application. In case the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of 12th of October, and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled, by the selected candidate, until the date of signature of the contract.

Eligibility criteria
Common Requirements for each position: - Fluently written and spoken Portuguese - Practical experience in digitalization aspects with the Industry, involving 5G capabilities - Practical experience in the preparation and submission for international research project proposals - Evidences on the preparation, submission and acceptance of patents in the area of telecommunications - Experience in Energy-Efficiency and Sustainability aspects in 5G/B5G mobile networks and compute platforms - Experience in the deployment of commercial and open-source 5G/B5G core networks and RAN elements Position Profile #1: - Experience in compute and networking monitoring for network service provisioning over virtualized and bare-metal platforms - Participation in digital transformation actions with multiple sectorial industries, on the use of ICT technologies - Experience in Network Federation in mobile networking deployments - Experience in the application of Software Defined Networking mechanisms in 5G/B5G procedures Position Profile #2: - Experience in the deployment of commercial and open-source 5G/B5G core networks and RAN elements - Experience in P4 programming, targeting Intel Tofino ASICs and P4-capable SmartNICs - Experience in the integration of data-plane and control plane advanced mechanisms in Computer and Communications Continuum. The jury gives itself the right to not accept any candidate or to have filled both positions.
Selection process
The evaluation of the scientific and curricular career has two components, namely:
The assessment of the curriculum vitae and other documentation presented, giving particular relevance to the contributions considered most relevant by the candidate in the last 5 years. This component of the evaluation is expressed in a scale of 0 to 20, and candidates with less than 14 are automatically considered excluded from the call. This component of the evaluation takes into consideration:
- Scientific production of the candidate, namely articles in peer-reviewed journals (referred in Journal Citation Report do ISI Web of Knowledge) and proceedings of international conferences. The jury will assess the scientific production taking into consideration the quality of the submitted items and their relevance to the field of the present call;
- Previous experience, knowledge of the themes, the scientific and technical expertise to carry out the functions described in point 1.
Candidates with a classification of 14 or higher in the previous component shall make a public live presentation of the results of their scientific activity in activities similar to the tasks mentioned in point 1 of this announcement, and future perspectives. Following, members of the evaluation panel shall stimulate an open debate with the candidate. The evaluation of the presentation is expressed in a scale of 0 to 20 and should take into account the scientific knowledge and the capacity of communication demonstrated by the candidate, as well as the answers to the questions placed by the members of the evaluation panel. Candidates with less than 14 in this component are automatically considered excluded from the call.
Each panel member score is obtained attributing a weighing factor of 40% to the classification given to the evaluation of the curriculum vitae and other documentation, a weighing factor of 50% to the classification given to the adequacy of the candidate to the position, and a weighing factor of 10% to the classification given to the interview.
The final classification of each candidate is obtained by the sum of the scores of the panel members divided by the number of the members of the panel. In the event of a tie, the chairperson of the panel will have the casting vote.
According to article 13 of RJEC, the selection panel shall be: Prof. Dr. Daniel Nunes Corujo (President), Prof. Dr. Rui L. Aguiar and Prof. Dr. Luís Emanuel Moutinho da Silva, and by Dr. Haoran Chi as substitute members.
The list of admitted and excluded candidates and the final ranking list will be sent to all candidates by email.
