Offer Description
The Algorithmic graph theory group in the department of mathematics at the Technical University Darmstadt seeks to fill several open full-time positions for PostDocs. We are looking for candidates who seek (further) academic qualification in one or more of the following fields:
- structural graph theory;
- design of algorithms on discrete structure;
- finite model theory. structures

Skills/Qualifications
- Outstanding PhD degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related field at the start of the employment;
- Interest and ambition for mathematical research;
- Active participation in an open, vibrant, and collaborative research atmosphere within the group;
- Solid background appropriate to the applicant’s stage of career in one or more of the following areas:
- – structural graph theory;
- – design of algorithms on discrete structures;
- – finite model theory.
Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- graph algorithms, particularly parametrised and approximation algorithms;
- graph decompositions, width measures, and decomposition–obstruction dualities;
- algorithmic and structural aspects of graph classes;
- graph minors and graphs on surfaces;
- vertex-minors and structural theory of matroids;
- structural theory of sparse graphs;
- coarse graph theory;
- descriptive complexity theory;
- logic on graphs and other discrete structures, particularly algorithmic aspects and expressive power;
- elements of model theory, particularly stable theories and dependent theories.
Candidates are expected to have international research experience in one or more of the topics listed above, witnessed by a strong publication record in mathematical journals and/or conferences in theoretical computer science.
