Position description

The experimental high energy physics group at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position working on the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (located at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland). The successful candidate will play a major role both in physics data analysis and in hardware/electronics work on the CMS Phase-2 muon detector upgrades. The selected candidate will likely need to travel to Geneva, Switzerland at various times.

The successful candidate will contribute to current data analysis efforts in the group, which focuses on Higgs-boson physics and searches for new physics beyond the standard model. Postdocs in the group are encouraged to develop new data analysis ideas and methods. The successful candidate will also be heavily involved in our ongoing project to develop and build new, high-speed data acquisition opto-electronics for the CMS muon system.

The initial position is for two years. However, the normal period of time for this position is around 4-5 years, assuming satisfactory job performance and continued U.S. Department of Energy funding for our group.
