Position Function
The EQUIP Lab, led by Dr. Mariel Pfeifer at Cornell University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate with expertise in qualitative and/or mixed methods research.
The lab focuses on transforming STEM education and career training, with particular attention to how undergraduate STEM courses can better serve all learners. Current research includes:
- Instructor perceptions of student-centered learning
- Student experiences in STEM learning and career pathways, especially for underrepresented backgrounds
The postdoctoral associate will contribute to ongoing projects and may develop independent or collaborative research aligned with the lab’s mission. The role involves significant participation in qualitative and mixed-methods research design and execution.
Responsibilities
The postdoctoral associate will:
- Lead and contribute to research design, data collection, and analysis
- Author manuscripts and present at academic conferences
- Co-mentor undergraduate researchers (with support)
- Contribute to a collaborative lab culture and participate in lab meetings
- Provide feedback on ongoing research projects
Additional mentorship may be provided in:
- Grant writing
- Teaching
- Science communication
The position is part of a broader discipline-based education research (DBER) community at Cornell, offering regular collaboration and professional development opportunities.
Time Allocation
- 80%: EQUIP Lab research, mentoring, writing, presentations, and research administration
- 20%: Independent scholarly work and professional development
Requirements
Applicants must have a PhD in one of the following (by appointment date):
- Biology education research
- STEM education research
- Discipline-based education research (DBER)
- Closely related field
Position Details
- Full-time, in-person position
- Location: Ithaca, NY
- Start date: Negotiable (preferred by Fall 2026)
- No supervisory responsibilities

Salary
- Hiring rate: $63,480
- Pay range: $62,232 – $88,745
Salary depends on experience, education, discipline, and skills.
