Remuneration: $96,342 to $130,727 pa (LEVA) (inclusive of $81,410 to $110,466 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)
Location: Gardens Point
Open to: Current staff members of QUT who have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of the fixed-term appointment. Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow (Applied Economics) to join School of Economics and Finance, Faculty of Business and Law.
This position will work on an exciting project on the impact assessment of new technologies in the fields of renewable energy supply chain and artificial intelligence. The project is funded by an external organisation. Key responsibilities include the following: (i) undertake research on impact assessment of new technologies in energy storage (including batteries) and genAI, (ii) undertake analysis related to the Global Supply Chain of new technologies in energy storage (including batteries) and genAI fields; (iii) apply for internal and external funding as guided by the Supervisor, and others as in the Position document.

What you need to succeed
- PhD in Applied Economics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
- Strong record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications, with evidence of lead or sole authorship.
- Relevant experience applying economic evaluation methods, preferably in energy, manufacturing, or trade supply chain contexts.
- Demonstrated or emerging research agenda on the economics of clean energy transitions, critical minerals, industrial supply chains, and genAI.
- Excellent communication skills across diverse audience types, including the ability to convey research findings to non-specialist audiences such as industry partners, policymakers, and community stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge and practical skills in data analysis, including causal inference and econometric techniques, with experience working with firm-level or other microdata.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to work independently, identify research opportunities, and engage productively with industry and commercial partners — including business advisors, financial analysts, investment brokers, and practitioners — and familiarity with green finance, critical minerals investment, or trade finance ecosystems.
