Postdoctoral Fellow, Biological Sciences
The Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research within the research program of Dr. Ihab Younis. This position provides opportunities for scientific leadership, mentorship, scholarly publication, grant development, and supervision of student researchers.
The appointment is for one year and is renewable based on performance and continued funding, located in Doha, Qatar, with a starting date of September 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, conduct, and analyze experiments and research studies related to the objectives of the research program.
- Develop innovative research questions and methodologies that advance the field.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
- Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals, progress reports, and other research-related documents.
- Maintain accurate and organized research records.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate students participating in research projects. This includes assisting undergraduate researchers in experimental design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Assist in the management and coordination of research activities within the laboratory or research group.
- Contribute to the maintenance of laboratory equipment, databases, computational resources, and research infrastructure as appropriate.

CMU in Qatar (CMUQ) operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus in Pittsburgh, USA which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in the Education City are a broad mix of nationalities, but primarily from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically for this campus and seconded by faculty from the main campus. - Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a closely related field by the start date of employment.
- Demonstrated record of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
