Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Biological Sciences, Lander Lab, College of Arts and Sciences
Job Overview
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our molecular parasitology team in the Lander laboratory under the supervision of Noelia Lander (https://homepages.uc.edu/~landerlab/wordpress/) at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Lander’s recent funded NIH grant involves multi-disciplinary studies, and includes genetic manipulation of trypanosomes, phenotypic analyses of mutant cell lines, mammalian cell culture, proteomic and transcriptomic analyses, enzymatic activity, and state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, among other approaches to investigate cell signaling mechanisms in trypanosomatids. We have extensive experience in genome editing and cell signaling in T. cruzi (https://researchdirectory.uc.edu/p/landernm). The Postdoctoral Fellow selected will train in a vibrant and nationally recognized academic setting.
Essential Functions
- Under the close supervision of the primary investigator, conduct research experiments in molecular parasitology with the goal of better understanding cell signaling mechanisms in trypanosomes that could lead to the development of novel strategies for Chagas disease control.
- Perform functional analysis of proteins involved in cell signaling in Trypanosoma cruzi.
- Learn and apply cellular and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, gene editing, fluorescence microscopy, gel electrophoresis, western blot analysis, and phenotypic analysis of trypanosome cell lines.
- Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research in trypanosome biology. Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation.
- Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise. Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
- Teach laboratory protocols and techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
Required Education
Prior to the date of appointment, a Doctoral Degree in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
Application Process Information
Applications must be submitted online at https://jobs.uc.edu.
To apply, submit a cover letter with a brief description of your research experience gained during the PhD, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. (Please email documents to Dr. Lander as well).
