Scope of Job: The Puentes Postdoctoral Fellow is a three (3) year grant-funded position under the U.S. Department of Education's Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) program. This is a trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Works under minimal supervision with some latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment in research and/or teaching. Performs teaching and/or research work as required within the classroom and/or project assigned.
Description of Duties:
- Develops, tests, and analyzes research data for projects based on application expertise and interest.
- Writes grant proposals for competitive funding agencies or organizations. Works in the field gathering data.
- Conducts background research.
- Develops and implements an evaluation plan and prepares progress reports as needed.
- Studies, tests, and maintains accurate data identified as relevant and/or best practice systems from research results obtained through national studies.
- Teaches one to two courses per semester in conjunction with faculty member, if assigned.
- Publishes in peer-reviewed publications related to the focus of the research activities assigned.
- Writes grant proposals for competitive funding agencies or organizations.
- Works in the field gathering data.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received: General direction from the assigned supervisor.

Required Education: PhD in Mexican American Studies or a related field from an accredited University.
Preferred Education: None.
Licenses/Certifications: None.
Required Experience: None.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in writing and obtaining grants.
- Experience in the following topics: higher education, student success, community engagement, family engagement, and community leadership.
- Experience in writing and publishing in the areas/intersections of higher education, student success, community engagement, family engagement and Mexican American Studies.
- Experience working in local communities and with parents.
- Understanding of the promotoras model of leadership.
- Fluent communication in both English and Spanish.
Equipment: Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications.
Working Conditions: Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other: This is a trainee position subject to a specific time of no more than three years as agreed to by stakeholders.
