Scope of Job:
Trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Under limited supervision and with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, performs complex research work by assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialized research projects. Manages the upkeep, training, and supervision of specialized research equipment within area of assigned responsibility.
Description of Duties:
- Develops and tests vaccines against infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis.
- Work with conventional laboratory reagents, instrumentation, and molecular/tissue biology techniques.
- Operate and generate data utilizing advanced instrumentation/techniques, flow cytometry, confocal imaging, live animal IVIS, and CT-PET machines.
- Designs in vitro and in vivo (murine model) experiments.
- Record and analyze research data, write protocols and manuscripts
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education: PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or closely related field from an accredited University (based on funding restrictions degree may need to have been conferred within a set period of time previous to assuming position).
Preferred Experience: Experience with animal research, immunology, and advanced instrumentation such as flow cytometry and confocal imaging. Prior experience in vaccine studies.
