Postdoctoral Fellow in Physics
Postdoctoral Fellow in Physics
Stockholm University
Department of Physics, Stockholm University
The Department of Physics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University and conducts a wide range of basic research in experimental and theoretical physics. The department has approximately 250 employees, 95 of whom are doctoral students. Many are recruited internationally. Fysikum is part of the AlbaNova University Centre, which also houses the Department of Astronomy, the physics departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita).
Fysikum and Stockholm University are affiliated with the Stockholm Dual Career Network (SDCN), which offers expat partners professional events, career support and opportunities to build networks in their new home city: www.sdcn.se.

Project Description
The position is associated with rare event searches with XENONnT and preparation for the next generation rare event observatory XLZD. XENONnT is a dual-phase liquid xenon TPC at LNGS with a 5.9-tonne active mass, optimized for WIMP detection with sensitivity to spin-independent cross sections down to ~10⁻⁴⁸ cm². Its low backgrounds and improved calibration enable searches for low-energy electronic recoils from axions, dark photons, and other BSM candidates. The detector also probes CEνNS and sets limits on the neutrino magnetic moment and axion-electron couplings. XENONnT is part of the XLZD consortium, which aims to merge the expertise of the XENON, LUX-ZEPLIN, and DARWIN collaborations to realize a next-generation dark matter observatory.
Main Responsibilities
The postdoctoral candidate is expected to focus on:
- Statistical data analysis including machine learning
- Monte Carlo simulations
- Operations and calibration of the XENONnT detector
- Potential involvement in the testing, characterization, and development of photosensors
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for this postdoctoral position, applicants must:
- Hold a Swedish doctoral degree in a relevant subject or an equivalent degree from another country
- Have their degree completed by the time of hiring decision
