Scope of Job:
Trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Under limited supervision and with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, performs complex research work by assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialized research projects. Manages the upkeep, training, and supervision of specialized research equipment within area of assigned responsibility.
Description of Duties:
- Develops, tests, records, and analyzes research projects based on application expertise and interest in cancer biology, molecular techniques, nanomedicine, drug delivery, pathology, chronic diseases.
- Exploring molecular mechanisms linking to cancer, obesity, liver, women diseases using a combination of biochemical and molecular techniques in cultured cells, xenografts, and engineered mouse models.
- Working with conventional laboratory reagents, instrumentation, and molecular/tissue biology techniques.
- Operating and generating data utilizing advanced instrumentation/techniques, flow cytometry, confocal imaging, live animal IVIS and CT-PET machines, X-ray radiation, XCELLigence, Seahorse, ultracentrifuge, Proteomics (Mass spectra), HPLC, etc
- Conducts background research, independently design experiments to be conducted in vitro and in murine models.
- Studies, tests, and maintains accurate data identified as relevant and/or best practice systems from research results obtained through national studies.
- Designs and implements training activities as required.
- Develops and implements an evaluation plan and prepares progress reports as needed.
- Prepare manuscripts and assist with grant and proposal submissions related to cancer and other biomedical research.
- Publishes in peer-reviewed publications related to the focus of the research activities assigned and assists with grant and proposal submissions related to cancer and other biomedical research.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education: PhD in Cancer or Molecular Biology, Genetics, Drug delivery, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or other closely related biomedical field from an accredited University (based on funding restrictions degree may need to have been conferred within a set period of time previous to assuming position).
Preferred Experience: Experience in conducting research in the field of cancer, obesity, HIV, neurodegenerative diseases, geomorphology or related fields. Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Experience in conducting research utilizing advanced techniques and instrumentation. Expertise with biomedical research and cancer, both in vitro and in vivo. Experience in a molecular biology laboratory or closely related experience. Experience in using cancer biology, molecular techniques, and advanced instrumentation such as flow cytometry, confocal imaging, live animal IVIS and CT-PET machines, X-ray radiation, XCELLigence, Seahorse, ultracentrifuge, Proteomics (Mass spectra), HPLC, etc. Analytical technique experience using HPLC, mass spectra, thermal analyzer, FTIR, SEM, DSC/TGA.
