NEOMED is a
mission-driven, community-based medical university committed to
educating health professionals, advancing discovery, and improving
the health of our region. The
Smith Laboratory at Northeast
Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), in collaboration with
the
Andrew Pieper Laboratory at University Hospitals/Case
Western Reserve University, is seeking a highly motivated
Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join an
interdisciplinary research team investigating
visual system
dysfunction and neurodegeneration following traumatic brain injury
(TBI).
The Postdoctoral Fellow will play a key role in an ongoing funded
research program focused on understanding visual system dysfunction
following traumatic brain injury (TBI). The project seeks to define
how TBI alters the structure, function, and molecular biology of
retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) to uncover the mechanisms driving the
highly prevalent visual disturbances that persist in many patients
after brain injury. Findings from this work are expected to advance
our understanding of neurodegenerative processes following TBI and
identify potential targets for therapeutic intervention.
