Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics, Faculty of Engineering.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will play a crucial role in the collaborative project between Queensland University of Technology (QUT) other universities and industry partners, focusing on Power Quality Analysis and Modelling using advanced machine learning and data-driven approaches. This project is part of the ARC Training Centre in Electrifying Australia for a Net-zero Future. The objective of this project is to utilise large-scale power quality data (voltage and current harmonics) from complex, time-varying distribution networks with grid connected inverters, and predict the system behaviour under different operating conditions. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of electrical power systems and cutting-edge machine learning techniques, applying and developing methods such as time-series modelling, dynamic behaviour prediction, graph neural networks for topology modelling, anomaly detection, and physics-informed neural networks to address critical challenges in power system reliability, stability, and performance.
About us
QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.
The School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics plays a significant role in almost every aspect of a modern lifestyle, supplying the energy and intelligence for the technology that helps us to manage and understand the world around us. We work to ensure safe, affordable and environmentally responsible supply and consumption of electricity. We make sense of the world’s data streaming in from cameras, devices, and sensors. Our expertise in Power Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, Robotics, AI/Machine Learning, Computer Vision and Signal Processing allows us to develop systems to automatically interpret the world, its people and their activities from diverse visual and audio sources. We create cutting edge robotic systems that interact with the real world, operating autonomously in our natural and built environments to benefit industries such as power, health, transport, manufacturing, mining and agriculture. We are committed to the education of Electrical Engineers both as undergraduates and postgraduates, and work with partner Schools to deliver leading edge Renewable Power, AI/Robotics, Mechatronic, Software and Aerospace Engineering education.
What you need to succeed
- Completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline preferably in Electrical or Computer Systems Engineering with strong machine learning background.
- Proficiency in machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, with strong Python programming skills.
- Experience in power system harmonics and power quality is an advantage.
- Demonstrated written communication skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records, with a demonstrated track record in publishing in high-quality conferences and journals, and experience in summarising scientific data in reports.
- Demonstrated ability and motivation to engage and actively collaborate with a industry partners and scientific organisations or individuals.
- Demonstrated ethical standards in research confidentiality including an ability to protect intellectual property.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
