Postdoctoral Fellows (PhD) and Clinician Scientists (MD) (m/f/div) Universitätsklinikum Würzburg

The Faculty of Medicine has established the Mildred Scheel Early Career Center (MSNZ), which is funded by a grant from the German Cancer Aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe). The center is dedicated to excellent tumor research and comprises independent research groups led by young medical and life sciences researchers. The center interacts closely with many research groups in molecular biology and medicine as part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Mainfranken, a joint institution of the University Hospital and the University of Würzburg focusing on cancer medicine and tumor research. Information about the participating departments, as well as the research groups and projects currently funded in the MSNZ, can be found at https://www.med.uni-wuerzburg.de/msnz/.

For the MSNZ, we look for

Postdoctoral Fellows (PhD) and Clinician Scientists (MD) (m/f/div)

We offer

  • a joint appointment by the MSNZ and a research group or a clinical department of the university or the University Hospital for a minimum of two years
  • funding to develop your research project, including support for a technician and consumables
  • joint seminars with the MSNZ groups and many scientific events
  • professional skills training and mentoring

Apply if you have

  • completed an excellent PhD or MD thesis
  • at least one first-author original publication or preprint
  • strong interest in molecular or translational oncology
  • hands-on experience in the area molecular biology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics
  • for postdoctoral fellows: up to five years research experience after your PhD
  • for clinician scientists: license to practice medicine in Germany (“Approbation als Arzt / Ärztin” or “Berufserlaubnis nach § 10 der Bundesärzteordnung”)

Before or during your application, please contact a research group at the University of Würzburg or the University Hospital Würzburg, in which you propose to conduct your research project (https://www.med.uni-wuerzburg.de/msnz/associated-groups/). For PhD applicants, we will ask for a letter of support from possible host groups, MDs will need an existing or guaranteed position as a physician at the University Hospital Würzburg / the University of Würzburg.

We are interested in many aspects of molecular and translational oncology, but are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in the following areas:

  • novel genetic and chemical-biological strategies to control tumor growth
  • new analytical technologies to monitor tumor growth and responses to therapy
  • interactions between tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment
  • the role of altered RNA metabolism in tumorigenesis

To apply, please electronically submit a single PDF file containing your CV, a list of publications, a motivation letter, and a one-page outline of your research interests, indicating the research group you would like to join to mail@msnz-wuerzburg.de. The deadline for the application is November 8, 2025.

The University of Würzburg and the University Hospital Würzburg are equal opportunities employers. Women, therefore, are especially encouraged to apply. Applications of people with special needs are particularly welcome.
