Postdoctoral Fellowship
A postdoctoral fellowship is available at the University of Maryland School of Medicine
Position Summary
A one-year full-time postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. A. James Mixson in the Department of Pathology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Our research team is interested in developing drug and gene carriers targeting solid tumors. Specifically, we are investigating several histidine-rich carriers of doxorubicin siRNA targeting oncogenes, as well as plasmids expressing tumor suppressor genes, to reduce breast cancer growth in a mouse model. These therapeutic agents will be evaluated alone and in combination to reduce tumor growth. Our lab has pioneered several developments in gene therapy, including being the first to deliver systemically tumor-suppressing and antiangiogenic genes using non-viral methods. For the past two decades, we have primarily focused on delivering therapeutic genes and siRNA by improving the histidine-lysine carriers that carry them. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. is required
- Experience in pharmacology and chemistry is desired.
- Prior experience with molecular biology
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Work experience with mice and tail injections is highly desired.
