Offer Description
- Duration of postdoctoral fellowship employment contract is 24 months.
- Research Topic: the fellowship is related to the research on methods, technologies, and practices for modern cybersecurity and AI cybersecurity, software supply chain management, risk assessment within state of the art complex computing systems including software, hardware, and IOT.
- Planned Fellowship Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Linas Bukauskas.
The candidate will be a part of a multidisciplinary and collaborative team and conduct the postdoctoral fellowship research in the Cybersecurity laboratory (CSL) at the Institute of Computer Science of VU Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. It is a small yet active research team known nationally and abroad by publications and participation in cyber defence exercises. It has a mission to perform and support state-of-the-art research and education in cybersecurity. CSL has a strategic goal to develop virtual and technological educational ecosystems and platforms for research and training in cybersecurity. The CSL team uses the faculty's virtual cloud-based infrastructure and specialised tools owned and developed by the laboratory. CSL collaborates with entities from the public and private sectors and international research partners from Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Norway, and others.
Dr Linas Bukauskas is a full professor in computer science and a senior researcher in cybersecurity at the Institute of Computer Science. He leads the Cybersecurity Laboratory and is involved in the education of future cybersecurity professionals. Linas Bukauskas holds PhD in Computer Science from Aalborg University, Denmark. His research interests focus on PostQuantum cryptography aspects, security of critical infrastructures, digital forensics, and gamified cybersecurity education. As a lab leader Linas Bukauskas has been involved in numerous projects funded by EU, national funding agencies and industrial partners.

Dr Agnė Brilingaitė is an associate professor in computer science and senior researcher in cybersecurity at the Institute of Computer Science. She leads the Department of Computational and Data Modeling. Agnė Brilingaitė holds PhD in Computer Science from Aalborg University, Denmark. Her research interests focus on data and knowledge engineering, cybersecurity training, security testing, and education in computer science. In 2021-2023, she led the EEA funded project “Advancing human performance in cybersecurity”, ADVANCES, where multiple disciplines were applied to develop learning paths for cyber workforce. She collaborates with international partners in research and society-oriented activities. She led the project “Increasing Security-Awareness: the Invisible Power of Digital Traces” funded Baltic-German University Liaison Office and is leading VU team in Erasmus+ project “Innovative Approach to Kid's Cybersecurity Education: Empowering and Inspiring Educators for the Next Generation.”

Skills & Qualifications (Selection Criteria):
- Background in cybersecurity training, digital forensics, data management and data engineering, secure software development, cyber threat analysis, information system security analysis, application security, malware security, and other related areas.
- Language Skills: good working knowledge of English (B2 level or higher), with strong written and oral communication skills.
- Publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Ability to build security-related proofs of concept.
- Programming skills in object-oriented languages, Python, R; virtualisation; scenario development for training in cyber ranges or table top exercises, usage of Unix/Linux OS, shell scripting; software engineering skills; data management and data analysis skills.
- Interests in teaching with supervisory skills to transfer knowledge to the community.
- Good organisational and planning skills, attention to detail, responsibility, easy adaptation to different work environments and to a new international team.
Specific Requirements
Desirable Assets (Considered as Advantages):
- Experience in academic mentoring, including leading practical seminars or co-supervising student theses within an international university environment.
- Demonstrated experience or motivation in drafting technical grant proposals for international funding agencies.
Specific Institutional Preference:
Strong preference will be given to candidates who obtained their PhD degree from prestigious international research institutions outside of Lithuania that possess an established, world-class research framework.

Monthly Salary: €3,634.00 gross (before tax).
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must satisfy the eligibility requirements for postdoctoral fellowships at Vilnius University:
- The candidate must hold a doctoral degree awarded by a foreign institution (preferred) or a Lithuanian science institution other than Vilnius University.
- No more than 5 years must have elapsed since the awarding of the PhD degree. This 5-year window can be formally extended for documented periods of maternity, paternity, or parental leave.
Selection process
The evaluation follows a standard, transparent merit-based academic review process. Candidates will be ranked based on the alignment of their competencies with the project description and the quality of their scientific publication record.
Please note: candidates who are unable to work in Lithuania, at the premises of the institutes of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Vilnius University, will not be considered.
