Offer Description
Activities and context
The primary objective of this post-doctoral fellowship is to analyze the economic and social mobility of immigrants in western São Paulo who passed through the Immigrant Hostel. We would like to advance in the implementation of a standardized database containing about 1.5 million enrollment records from the Immigrant Hostel. With this dataset in hand, we can cross-reference the names of these immigrants with those listed in a range of primary sources containing individual-level microdata on residents of cities in western São Paulo. The most significant of these sources are municipal almanacs.
The fellow will be required to regularly participate in the research activities of the Thematic Project, such as meetings and seminars, and carry out specific tasks, including the collection and analysis of historical documents, paleographic reading, conducting interviews, and building and analyzing databases using various primary and secondary sources, whether already collected or yet to be gathered.
Additionally, the candidate should assist other researchers in developing databases by extracting data from manuscripts and documents.
