Postdoctoral Fellowships in Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) – Sweden

Job Details

The SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) invites applications for 22 postdoctoral fellowships starting in autumn 2026. This call marks the launch of a new, recurring national postdoctoral program aimed at recruiting excellent early-career researchers for long-term careers in Swedish life science.

DDLS is a 12-year strategic initiative funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, with the objective of building globally competitive research environments at the interface of life science, data science, and artificial intelligence. The postdoctoral program supports projects across four strategic research areas: Cell and Molecular Biology, Evolution and Biodiversity, Precision Medicine and Diagnostics, and Epidemiology and Biology of Infection.

The program offers two tracks:
Academic track (15 positions) hosted at Swedish universities or the Swedish Museum of Natural History
Industry track (7 positions) hosted by life science companies based in Sweden, with joint academic–industrial supervision

Data-driven life science is a field of research that utilizes data, computational methods, and artificial intelligence to investigate biological systems and processes. Projects can include assembling, sharing, integrating, and advanced analysis of large amounts of data from diverse sources, including experiments, observations, and simulations, to gain a deeper understanding of how living organisms function.

Each fellowship is funded for two years, with a total budget of 2 MSEK per project, and provides full employment at the host institution or company under Swedish employment conditions. Successful candidates become members of the national DDLS Research School, which offers a structured training environment, national networking, courses, seminars, and scientific visits across Swedish academia and industry.

Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) prior to the start of employment. For positions at Swedish universities, candidates should normally have obtained their PhD no more than three years before the application deadline, with allowances for documented career breaks.

The program emphasizes scientific excellence, researcher independence, open science, and FAIR data principles. Candidates are expected to develop their own research profile while contributing to Sweden’s growing ecosystem in data-driven life science.

Application deadline: 31 March 2026
Expected start date: October 2026
