Is the Job related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure?: No
Offer Description
Job description
A full-time, 24-month postdoctoral research position, starting in January 2027, is available in the ERRMECe laboratory (CY Cergy Paris Université, France) to develop genetically engineered bacteriophages against biofilm-associated Staphylococcus aureus infections. The project aims to establish innovative phage engineering strategies to enhance antibiofilm activity using a unique collection of clinically relevant Silviavirus bacteriophages currently deployed in compassionate-use programs in France, providing an exceptional translational framework for the development of next-generation phage therapeutics.
Research environment and funding
The successful candidate will join the ERRMECe laboratory at CY Cergy Paris Université (CYU) and work within a multidisciplinary consortium involving the Centre International de Recherche en Infectiologie (CIRI, Lyon), the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL), and BioCIS (CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay, CYU). The project offers access to unique therapeutic bacteriophage resources and a collaborative environment spanning bacteriophage engineering, biofilm microbiology, phage biology, protein engineering and translational anti-infective research.
This position is funded through the PHAGOBOOST project, supported by CY Generations under the French Government grant "Investissements d'avenir" France 2030.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Identifying genetic determinants and engineering strategies that enable stable integration of genetic payloads while preserving phage fitness.
- Implementing bacteriophage genetic engineering tools for phage genome editing.
- Evaluating the antibiofilm properties of genetically engineered bacteriophages in relevant experimental models.
- Contributing to dissemination of research findings and project reporting.
Candidate profiles
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in microbiology, molecular microbiology, bioengineering, synthetic biology, or a related discipline.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- A strong research track record, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
- Strong experimental skills in microbiology and molecular microbiology.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative research environment.
