Position Overview

The Medical Faculty of Masaryk University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in extracellular vesicle (EV) research in cancer. This position offers the opportunity to work within the Michal Masařík Research Group, a biomedical laboratory dedicated to understanding molecular mechanisms driving cancer progression, particularly in the tumour microenvironment (TME).

The group focuses on communication networks between cancer cells and stromal components, aiming to elucidate how these interactions contribute to therapy resistance, metabolic adaptation, and cancer aggressiveness. The lab is an active member of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) and a co-founder of the Czech Society for Extracellular Vesicles (CzeSEV).

A key research theme is studying EVs released by cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and cancer cells under physiological and stress conditions (e.g., lysosomal dysfunction, nutrient deprivation). Research aims to understand how EV cargo (protein and RNA) changes in response to stress and affects recipient cell behavior, including metabolism, migration, and cell death sensitivity. The lab explores EV-based biomarkers and their therapeutic potential as targeted, biocompatible delivery systems for drugs, immune modulation, and precision oncology.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

• Ph.D. (or equivalent) awarded within the past 7 years, and at least 2 years of research experience outside the Czech Republic within the past 3 years (≥0.5 full-time equivalent),
  OR Ph.D. from an international institution awarded within the past 3 years.
• Publication record of at least three research outputs in the past three years, with at least two in Q1 journals (Web of Science).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Passion for scientific exploration of complex topics
• Prior EV research experience is beneficial but not mandatory
• Experience with Density Gradient Ultracentrifugation and other EV isolation/purification techniques
• Strong background in molecular biology, immunology, or biochemistry
• Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills
