The Comparative Perinatal Development group (Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences) is seeking a part-time postdoctoral researcher for our “From Pigs to Paediatrics” project, bridging gaps in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and intestinal barrier function studies.

Position Overview

As a postdoctoral scholar, you will:

• Conduct research on perinatal gut development in pigs, focusing on intestinal barrier function in suckling pigs, including field trials and in vitro studies.
• Contribute to securing research funding through grant applications and collaborations.
• Mentor PhD and master’s students in their research projects.
• Participate in teaching activities in Laboratory Animal Sciences, including lecturing, supervising assignments, and coordinating practical sessions.
• Represent the research group and contribute to academic service, both internally and externally.

Candidate Profile

• PhD in Life Sciences, preferably Veterinary Medicine or Bioscience Engineering (or to be completed before starting).
• Research skills aligned with the faculty and university’s policies.
• Teaching competencies aligned with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
• High standards of quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.
• Fluency in English and proficiency in Dutch.
• Qualification for working with laboratory animals (Category C, or Function A and B).
• Valid driver’s license B.
