Activities and context

Post-Doctoral fellowship to develop mathematical and computational tools for dredging planning in Brazilian rivers.

The project couples numerical optimization and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), including hydrodynamics and pollutant or sediment transport.

The fellow will formulate PDE-constrained, multiobjective and possibly bilevel problems, develop optimization algorithms and cost-reduction strategies, and conduct computational studies.

Mandatory requirements

PhD in applied mathematics, computational science, engineering, operations research, mathematics or a related field, obtained less than seven years before the fellowship begins, except under FAPESP-recognized circumstances.

Strong background in at least one of these areas: numerical optimization, CFD, numerical PDEs and scientific computing. Availability for exclusive dedication to the project.

Desirable requirements

Experience with PDE-constrained, multiobjective or bilevel optimization; transport models; sensitivity or adjoint methods; reduced-order or surrogate models; high-performance computing; or scientific programming is desirable.

Prior expertise in both optimization and CFD is not required.
