The applicant will be involved in studies of myocardial disease mechanisms in various preclinical heart failure models. These include surgical models like myocardial infarction (MI), pressure load (TAC), ischemia and reperfusion injury (I/R), and cancer therapeutics-induced cardiac dysfunction (cardio-oncology). Crosstalk of the immune system (inflammation) and cardiac fibroblast (myocardial fibrosis) is also a major research interest of the lab. To have a flavor of our research, applicants are referred to recent publications from our lab PMIDs: 36625265, 36052698, 33965510, 31581792, 30847418, 41073563.
The lab employs various techniques, including noninvasive echocardiographic assessment of cardiac function, genetically modified transgenic and knockout mouse models, surgical models of heart failure, cardiac cell isolation, flow cytometry, and various other molecular techniques. Prior experience in CVD research, FACS techniques and data analysis, mouse genetics, animal handling, and bioinformatics, would be a distinct advantage. Highly motivated individuals who wish to develop careers in academia are encouraged to apply. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who would like to prepare himself/herself for a solid scientific career in cardiac disease research. Contingent upon performance, the lab will encourage the applicant to apply for independent fellowship and, subsequently career transition grant as his/her career progresses.
