About the role
A position is available to investigate the role of centrosomes in short telomere syndrome, specifically dyskeratosis congenita (DC). The candidate will explore centrosome-telomere interactions using molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches, including CRISPR-based gene editing, advanced microscopy, RNA sequencing, and proteomics. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments, analysing data, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, mentoring students, preparing publications and grant applications, and presenting findings at conferences.
About you
We seek a highly motivated and detail-oriented scientist with a PhD (or close to completion*) in Cell Biology/Molecular Genetics, or a related field. You should have a background in telomere biology, centrosome function, and genome stability and be proficient in using advanced fluorescence microscopy, and computational tools for genomics and proteomics. Excellent problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and communication are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic centres and one public engagement centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. PhD candidates who are close to completion and have not yet received their PhD award will be appointed on a salary of £37,889 - £38,483. On providing a copy of the formal award letter or award certificate, the salary will increase to £41,510.
